Scope and Crops
Individual farms or farm groups can apply for certification. To achieve certification, the farm or group manager must ensure that the farm or farms meet the social and environmental standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN). Once certification is achieved, they may apply to use the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal on their certified products.
Notes about certification:
- Certification is awarded to the farm or group's premises and may be used for any crop included on those premises.
- Compliance with the SAN standard is verified by auditors annually.
- Farms included in a certified group cannot use the certification individually, but only as part of a group.
- If the farm or group produce multiple crops. When requesting the audit, the producer must define the crops to be included in the audit, for which they would like to use the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal and the areas to be inspected.
- The producer can request the addition of new crops, farms or areas to the plan by notifying the local auditing organization who works with the Sustainable Farm Certification, Intl. inspection body.
The Sustainable Agriculture Network developed and owns the Sustainable Agriculture Standard which ensures that products carrying the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal come from certified farms. Learn more about the standard.
